The traditional house in Indonesia (Sumatera) Part 2

North Sumatera : Ruma Gorga

Ruma gorga often called Ruma Bolon or "The Old Baganding" is a traditional house Batak tribe that once a symbol of social status of the people living in Tapanuli, North Sumatra. They are categorized as ethnic Batak tribe that includes 6, namely: Batak Toba, Karo Batak, Batak Pakpak, Simalungun Batak, Batak Angkola, and Batak Mandailing.

The term for Batak house adapted to jewelry. Traditional house with a wonderful variety of intricate decoration called ruma gorgasarimunggu or jabu. While traditional house that has no leaning or carving called jabu jabu god afternoon. For large-sized Ruma gorga  called Ruma Bolon. 

Apart from being a place to stay before Ruma Bolon also serves as a venue for religious ceremonies. Meanwhile, a small gorga ho called jabu parbale-balean. Besides them there are also ruma parsantian, the traditional house that belong to the youngest child.


Jambi : Rumah Lamo

The oldest house there called Rumah Tuo belonging Umar Amra (67), a descendant of the 13th of Undup Pinang Cook. He was one of a nobleman of ancient Malay exodus from the village Kuto Rayo, Veil. Lampung : Rumah Nuwo Sesat

Rumah Sesat also has a certain amount of space in which the bridge, which is the porch that serves as a small gathering. On the inside of the building there is a large space called pusiban, which serves as the official deliberations. In addition to meeting rooms, Interior of Rumah Sesat  also features tetabuhan space as a place to store the traditional musical instruments, as well as a brake elephant is a resting place for guest.

Bengkulu: Rumah Bubungan Lima

In Bengkulu Malay language, homes are also called "Rumah". The traditional house of Bengkulu, including the type of houses on stilts. Stage house is designed to protect residents from flooding. Besides, under the stage can also be used to store the carts, crops, farming tools, firewood, and also serves as a cattle shed.

Aceh: Rumoh Aceh

For the Acehnese, building a house is like building a life. That's why the development performed must meet several requirements and go through several stages. The requirements are: choosing the good day by Teungku (local clerics), procurement of festivity, wood procurement options, and so on.


West SumateraRumah Gadang


Rumah gadang or Rumah Godang is the name for a traditional house of Minangkabau traditional house and lot in encounter in West Sumatra province, Indonesia. The house is also known by other names by the local people with the name Bagonjong house or there is also a mention by name Rumah Baanjung. Houses with this model are also often found in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Riau: Selaso Jatuh Kembar, Lontiok
